Hi Curt,
I've looked at the pictures and description several times for this one (the green one in Mass) and it looks pretty decent. I owned a '71 wagon for many years and found it to be extremely practical- a great car really. If I didn't already have my hands full with 3 VSaabs, I'd be thinking of this one. To me, the best modification I made to the car was to get rid of the lever shocks and convert to telescopic. I could never get the Armstrong's to work properly or for long.
To me, a strong running V-4 (95 or 96) with no major mechanical problems, minimal rust, and a decent interior is worth $2000. Price goes down from there if it has issues... and up from there if it has improvements. For example, I bought my '68 96 Deluxe for $2500 earlier this year- the car came from the south, so the rust was minimal. Plus it had the Deluxe package, a fancy steering wheel, and 4 bolt hubs. It's a driver, not concours, but presentable. Over the course of the summer, I had a few problems- alternator went, the radiator leaked, and the inner CV joints needed replacing- but that's part of owning a 40 year old car. I'm extremely happy with it and get comments every single time I drive it.
So check out the 95, carefully assess the rust, pull the plugs and do a compression check, see how noisy the gearbox is, have a look at any records, check the interior, etc etc. Find out why and how the freewheel was locked out. See what spares you might get. Figure out if the maintenance was done correctly or if everything was jury-rigged. Remember, $2000 or $2200 doesn't buy much car in 2007!! And it might buy you a very decent 95!
