Clutch Problem ('72 96 V4) Posted by BAAB [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BAAB) on Fri, 9 Jan 2009 14:58:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a new clutch slave, and a freshly rebuilt clutch master, and it has been properly pressure bled. The clutch actually works for a while, but then starts to fail. I have adjusted the pedal free movement bolt to the point that it is now all the way in (or tight), so it cannot be tightened any more. Here's the problem: eventually (today it took about 20 minutes of driving) the problem starts happening and that is; when I push in the clutch pedal at a stop to put it in 1st gear, it's as if I am trying to put it in gear without pressing the clutch at all. Pumping doesn't help. It is just like trying to shove into gear without the clutch (imagine the sound that would make - GRIND CITY). I have to turn the car off, put it in 1st, then start the car to keep it from grinding. All other gears work ok. Does this mean my clutch disc needs replaced? Once it is in gear, it pulls great with no slipping at all. Ideas? Thanks!
