Yeah, I suspect "spirited" driving would kill the freewheel quite fast. Getting off and then back on the gas hard would stress it pretty severely. When accelerating in freewheel mode I go easy on the throttle until I feel the freewheel hook up, to minimize the shock loading it experiences.
