Front Wheel Bearing Install Question Posted by BAAB [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BAAB) on Sat, 20 Mar 2010 10:44:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ok, I have replaced many wheel bearings without issue, but on my '72 96, I had to be creative with what was on hand to press the outer driveshaft through the middle of the bearing which is already installed in the carrier and steering knuckle which is partially installed on the car. I basically used the brake rotor and the shaft end nut and washer to pull the shaft through the center of the bearing. Has anyone else used this approach successfully?
It appeared the bearing install was successful, after a few minutes of driving, the grinding noise returned and the shaft/nut gets pretty hot. Could the grinding & heat be caused by something else? Thanks.
