I'm wondering if you have to go to that trouble.
I've sealed a couple of gas tanks with sealer kits and had very good success. The first was a tank in my boat that developed some pinholes. I bought a kit from Eastwood and cleaned and sealed it. The sealant is amazing stuff! I spilled some on my shop floor and it dried there- still there in fact, 10 years later- about 1/8" thick and totally rock solid. And the boat is still going strong.
Last summer I sealed the tank in my 96 using a similar kit from POR-15. This was due to rust and scale in the tank.
One caveat- MAKE SURE you keep the outlet clear. If it gets clogged with sealant, you're done. Some people use a wire, but I found it difficult to push all the way in- the tube is long. I used air pressure to clear the line every 30 minutes as the sealant cured.
