Is it worth it? The age-old question...
It really depends on what you want to do with the car and how big your budget is. Anyone that builds a performance motor today has the rotating elements balanced as a matter of course. No question.
I have a motor in one of my Sonett's that's balanced. It has a light flywheel, stiffer valve springs, and a cam. It will pull up to 8000 RPM if I dare. It's a very sweet motor that rev's instantly. I like it alot.
I also like to think that a balanced motor creates less stress and therefore less wear on everything, including bearings. It should last longer. Although, not many of us are putting 25K miles a year on our VSaabs.
Is it worth it? Only you can answer that question.
