Holley 1940 Carburetor?

I recently acquired a 1969 Saab 95. The owner was a bit of a tinkerer, and replaced the 1.5 engine with a later 1.7 engine. He told me when I picked it up that he had put on a Solex carb that had been rebuilt by Jack Lawrence.
Well, the car has a flat spot in acceleration right off of idle which is quite annoying, so I looked to adjusting the carb. Problem was I couldn't figure out what sort of "solex" it was. I've found out it's actually some sort of Holley 1940. I've found a couple of references to using this on V4s, but not much. Is this a carb that will actually work well with this engine? I'm tempted to trade it out for a stock carb or a single barrel Weber.
In any event if anybody is running this carb, is the flat spot in acceleration common? I figure all I need to do is to adjust the idle mix, but I noticed these carbs were originally intended for much larger engines than the V4, so I'm wondering if this is something I'll be mickey-mousing around with until it drives me crazy.
Thanks for any answers!
