I use a hose clamp to hold the springs/rollers together in the freewheel mechanism. It can't be too tight or it won't slide off when you insert it in the freewheel hub. And can't be too loose or you can't slide it in the freewheel hub.
Saab provided an improved nut that is very thick and strong. Instead of a tab, you use a punch to stake it. I used to get them from Jack Lawrence at Motor Sport Service. Not sure where I'd get one these days, since his passing. I'd probably try Tom Donney.
