Hi J. I do not know if that year and model was manufactured in a "California" emissions configuration and a "49-state" or "Federal" one, or in only one version, ie "50-state." If the original emissions sticker is intact it should indicate which version you have and what emission devices were installed (though the list of equipment is often sketchy and incomplete).
In any case it does not matter which version you have as far as registering the car in California. The car will have to pass a CA emissions test before registration. Part 1 of the test is inspection to see that the emission-related equipment is all in place as designed. If they made CA and Federal versions, they were probably made with different components, then it needs the set of stuff it was manufactured with.
If anything is missing it will have to be restored. Part 2 is "functional": certain components/systems are tested to see that they actually work. This includes timing, gas cap, EGR if equipped. (There are some differences if you are in an "enhanced" area, mostly population centers.) Part 3 is the tailpipe emissions, measured with the engine running. Must pass all 3 for certification.
There was formerly but no longer a $300 assessment on initial registration of a 49-state car being brought into the state.
Feel free to email me if you need more, or check the CA smogcheck website, I believe it is http://www.smogcheck.org
