the phantom in my 99 EMS

I'm stumped...and though I realize that there are still a few things I could check (the compression being the main one) I don't see why the car isn't catching at all. I was given a '77 EMS that had been sitting for about 8 months with what was sure to be simply a bad fuel pump. The pump was bad and I replaced it. In the process, I cleaned the tank and the lines as best I could. THere is most definately fuel getting to the cylinders now. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and even the coil with new stuff I had around my place and am most definately getting a good spark...Let's see, air: Check; Fuel: check; spark: check...so why can't I even get this bugger to fire up for even a second. I am sure the timing is way off but no matter where I put the distributor, I get nothing. Am I just missing something here? I'm no pro, but I still feel like this car should be doing something by now. I've tried all the ignition stuff in a sister car and everything works. Please share any insight you might have...the missus is tired of me cussing at the thing.
