"Was there another one?" Merely one of the coolest SAABs ever, that's all! As someone else said, this was the sports model of the two-stroke 96. It first appeared under the name "GT850" (following on from the 93-based GT750) but they changed the name to "Montecarlo 850" in honor of Eric Carlsson's win in the 1963 Monte Carlo Rally.
The GT850/MC850 had the same body as the regular 96 and a similar three-cylinder, two-stroke engine, but the GT/MC's was a performance version with triple carbs instead of one, oil injection instead of mix-with-the-gas oiling, and rated 48hp instead of 38. It also got front disc brakes and four-bolt wheels instead of the drums and five-bolts on the standard 96 of the same era. It had a more luxurious 'grand touring' interior with reclining seats, a headrest for the passenger, more comprehensive instrumentation including a tach, nicer upholstery, and a rear seat with 'picnic hampers' under the cushions and pockets for wine bottles hidden in the armrests! Thanks to the lighter weight of the two-stroke engine, it has less understeer, lighter steering, and more refined handling than the later V4-powered Saabs. Basically it is the ultimate 2-stroke 96!
The first car I owned was an old, clapped out GT850. I still want one. And you may not know it yet, but SO DO YOU!!!
