Hey Guys:
Sorry about that false reply, seems I hit a wrong key. Anyway, I seem to feel like the "old man in the sea" I bought my '66 Monte Carlo in '71 as a college student. At the time, I had no idea what a two-stroke was. However, it sounded great and handled unbelievably. I still own a version of that car today - it's a mixture of the best parts from the orignal, a restored body and a highly tuned engine. I've driven 60's Thunderbirds, Triumphs, Sunbeam Alpine's, Gordini's and Mercedes and yet somehow nothing compares to keeping that Monte "on-the-boil". It's the most exhilarating, sometimes heartbreaking (blown engines) yet always the most exciting car I've ever driven. One of the best lines I've heard about the Saab Monte Carlo, is that the exhaust note can drive a Ferrari owner to a psychiatrist- and it's true! As a far as a babe magnet, yes you've got that right. I live in Manhattan and keep this car garaged in Queens, NY. One day last spring, I picked it up... stopped at a light and noticed two young girls giggling and the young guy they were with mummbling..."cut it out"! Finally, they shouted to me - "Sir, do you have any Grey Poupon". Well anytime 35 years can convert a Saab to a Rolls Royce you know you own a winner! Try it you'll like it! As far as the "Old Man in the Sea" reference. I believe classics are to be used, so on rainless weekends, I mount the sleekest of kevlar kayaks on top of the Saab and head out to the ocean for the ultimate weekend. I wish I could photograph all the looks from the BMW's, Audi's and everything else as I just wear one big smile driving down the highway. So to all who have asked and are wondering - that's what the Saab Monte Carlo is all about. If you doubt me, just ask our dear Saab friend Sir 'on-the-roof' Carlsson!
