I have a 1976 2 litre combi coupe 99,UK car, B- series engine, single CD175 carb which stutters, flatspots whilst under load and occasionally backfires and runs on when swithced off. I have had two local garages check it over with no joy. The first checked all the ignition circuit and engine compression gave it all the ok and settled on a carb fault they they seemed reluctant to fix. The car has then been to a carb specialist who rebuilt the carb (new needle, jet, diaphram, seals etc)but still couldnt get the car running right. After changing points, condensor and coil it ran great. Or did! 10 miles later it is up to it old tricks. Having eliminated so much do I have the infamous distributor bushing problem? If so what should I be looking for? Where are these bushes located and how do I assess whether they are good or not?
Need some help on this one as I am running out of patience with the local mechanics. Any ideas?
