Regarding carbon build-up removal, there is many bottle cure products and sprays that definately help. There is a new service offered buy many shops that will remove ALL the carbon build-up WITHOUT head removal! They remove your fuel line and feed in a special cleaner while running the motor. I've seen the results and it's unbeleivable. Meineke dealors in the U.S. have a treatment wich is the one I know, it costs about $90.00...well worth it. If your valves/guides need work, you'd still have a problem, but it might be worth a chance. Sunpro systems also has a similiar system that uses some sort of vacuuming system that does this job as well...you just have to call around and find shops that offer these type of services. I know this sort of service may sound stupid and a waste of time, but I saw the results and couldn't believe it. I saw a guy bring a high milage camaro into a Meineke shop....this car sounded and ran like it was going to die any second. They hooked up the system, and performed the cleaning. You wouldn't believe how black the exhaust fumes were. Twenty-five minutes later, it sounded and ran like it was just rebuilt. You take the risk that it won't need anything else with this service, but for that price, you could get lucky and not have to pull the head.
