Thanks everyone for your advice. The tires have 10-15k miles on them, and have been rotated front-to-back. The slipping happened before and after the roatation.
Someone pointed out that the blue car had a/c, and the yellow doesn't. Thus the blue car has more weight up front. The yellow car also had an undersized battery (which I discovered when a cold day forced me to push start it), which also lessened the weight up front. I've also got some junk lying around in the trunk, but not a whole lot.
I don't recall if I had the alignment done on the yellow car. I'll put the new springs in, and then adjust the alignment.
Good point about the steering rack bushings. I did notice that the steering column, right where it meets the knuckle above the floor pan, is bent a little. I have no idea how that could happen, but it might cause some freeplay. I'll have to swap it out.
Hopefully all this will fix the problem. Thanks again.
