1. They are the same. I put a 99 lock into a C900. The primary fix to your repeating problem is to take out the reverse lock. I've done this when the tiny spring on them broke and they jammed. (I'm not completely remembering what I found when I examined a key mechanism a couple years ago to try to figure out what had caused it to break.) Make sure that the lock is very clean when you put it in. Clean the mechanism and lube the contact points with Moly lube (NeverSeize or something similar) that won't dry out. BTW, you can take the key cylinder out of the surrounding tube housing and put it into the new one so that you keep the whole car keyed the same. Of course in your case you've changed it multiple times and probably don't have the original lock cylinder.
2. Most cars do this, new ones worse than old ones. It's caused by outgassing of the vinyl upholstery. Probably coats our lungs, too. If you use some sort of vinyl protectant, like Armorall, it may be adding to the problem. The only solution is cleaning the windows, unless you want to reupholster your car in natural fabrics.
