OK, so now that the owner's convention is over, I have time to dig into this annoying issue concerning the binding of the drive train and the other associated noises from the same.

I completely stripped a 74EMS built in Trollhattan in 11/73 and dumped the motor and drivetrain into an E built in 3/73 at the same plant. I put the car on all four wheels and drove it down the road. That's when the problems started. Rubbing, bearing, clunking, binding type noises. Spent 5 days last month trying to figure it out. Jacked the car up and ran it in first and the motor moved side to side about 1/2" on the back two mounts. Ripped everything down and double checked all the components. I even pulled the inner driver on the passenger side and found that they were totally different designs from one tranny to the other, but thought nothing of it until I matched them up yesterday. Why? The drive train worked fine in the 74 body. The upper and lower A-arms are the same length, as are the driveshafts from year to year. The motor dropped onto the mounts like it was made for the car(which it should be). Total confusion, as I really don't want to pull the motor and stick the other unknown conditioned tranny in it if I could figure out why one seems to be wider than the other.

This is the only thing I have found to be different.

What am I missing here? There must be a logical explanation.
