There are many sources of oil cooler add ons. A unit that goes on like a spacer between the oil filter and the block. This adapter has two oil line connections to go to and from the cooler. The better of these have a thermostatic valve that only sends oil to the cooler above a certain temp. The 'B' engine turbos in the '78 99 and the '79 & '80 900 had this type of set-up, with the thrmo valve. The 99 & 900 oil coolers are different shapes. I plan to see if I can use this setup from the turbo 'B' engine in my '67 V-4. Otherwise most race supply places have the components to do this. The 99 & 900 parts are free from my colection of parts. The only thing I haven't answered yet is whether the addition of the adapter will put the oil filter in conflict with anything. But it is also possible to do a remote filter with a second two-line adapter on top of the cooler adapter. I hope this will not be necessary as it seems I have seen V-4's running some very large oil filters without problems, and I think the adapter plus a short filter will work. I hope to check this out soon, as I have both 99 & 900 cooler setups available. Only further step is to layout a location for the cooler, and see if the lines from the 99 or 900 are a reasonable length for the 96. I will post what I figure out. Someone out there has surely already done this?
