HEre's a thought...seeing as this apparently happened all of a sudden, when the return check valve went, what I have seen happen before is that the check valve comes apart internally and sends a small ball bearing into the tank. (the check valve has this bearing retained by a spring that may have given out) and that bearing can, and has in at least two cars I know of, get lodged in the return tube of the tank. a pos. check would be to try and some stiff, though flexible wire down that line I see how far it goes.
