I just finished puting this '72 99 back together. It is the 1854cc engine with electronic injection. I ran great for a week then began to stall out. The car started to run a little hotter than usual and then would die. I would then refuse to start again until morning.
I let the car run today and watched until the evil spirit that posseses the machine kicked in and they did, at exactly the same time the cooling fan kicked on. Coincedence? I have checked out the wiring diagrams I have (factory repair manual) but though I have this idea that the cooling fan runs through a relay that the fuel pump uses I am not sure. the diagram shows only the carburated version and later in the manual, has a supplament for the injection details. It seems the main difference is that the fuel pump (injected of course) has a relay that then runs through a "master relay". It seems the "master" is the same one that the carburated diagram shows being used among other things by the thermoswitch and the cooling fan.
These are the relays one the inner wall, driver's side wheel well, right above the injection computer box.
At least tell me if I'm crazy.
