Mazda Miata has the battery in the trunk. It is a special battery (might fit some other cars but might not) that has vent ports matching a connector with a tube that leads outside the vehicle. I'm not suggesting you use a Miata battery, though you could, if you got the connecting stuff and routed it outside, this would be a fair solution; alternately you could connect with a major battery supplier (not your local parts house they probably won't have a clue, but a house that wholesales AC Delco, Interstate, or the like) and talk to them about other batteries that have similar venting arrangements, or maybe just special vent caps with nipples, that can be placed on a standard battery and routed where you will with some suitable tubing. I am sure these exist but cannot cite chapter and verse.
