Daniel, What sort of excessive telescoping are we talking about? Do you mean as you move your seat forward and back, and use your wheel as a handle, it will telesope back about say an inch or so? If you pull and push the wheel, it will go back and forth about an inch? That IS normal. In fact, it IS a telescoping column, and it IS designed that way...to save your life. It isn't serviceable unless you change out the column. If you swapped it out with a "better" one, your simply getting a column that had less driver changes and therefore less leverage pulls on it. The very first 99's actually had a solid shaft that Saab quickly changed in the first year production run. You're probably better off with one that you know funtions freely. A solid one may have seized bushings, and in the event of a nasty crash, your rib cage wouldn't be happy.
