A change to what I said. Now I do smell the fumes as soon as I open the door after the car's been sitting, off, with the windows closed, for many hours. I can't say I've noticed fumes when the car's been sitting off for only a little while. So maybe it is the charcoal canister after all. Further reading suggests it may be a slow leak at the fuel pump O-ring. I have the Haynes, but I'm not a mechanic, and looking in the trunk, under the spare, I cannot find any access panel for the pump as illustrated. In fact I can't find anything in there that has screws, bolts, Allens, hex, or anything suggesting a removable item. Before I take it to any mechanic, I'd like to have a good idea what is really the cause at this point: fuel pump, charcoal, EGR, nylon vapor line, or something else.
