Hi all
I dont have a problem with overheating. Needle is at 7 o'clock when cruising and eight or nine in slow traffic.
However, the CEL recently came on and this prompted me to look inside under the bonnet which I haven't done in a while. Noticed that the expansion tank was empty. Also noticed some deposits/grime in the tank. I checked the manual and it recommended Saab Coolant. I was not able to get Saab Coolant at the motor store so I put in a liter of premixed coolant with Propylene Glycol - rather then drive the car and cause it to overheat.
My question is:
Is it bad to mix the propylene stuff with the coolant that was already in there? I don't know what it was but I presume that is was ethylene glycol as has been said by the people in the know on this site.
If I should flush it out then should I also put a chemical flush through the system beforehand?
Should I change the thermostat while I am at it?
Regards
Ed.

PS the CEL has gone away.
