follow up clarifications ... (long) Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Trying to determine if IAC has failed., Dean, Mon, 2 Feb 2004 13:39:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
TB was cleaned quite well the first time around. When cleaning the IAC, and with the 2nd and 3rd removals of it, I am able to "shake it" a bit and feel the flap move back and forth inside. I will do a resistance check tomorrow. BUt what about the "hum"? Is this normal (again, a NA).
FPR. Can I have a bit more info on this? Is it there any basic testing I can do without adjustments that may make things worse? Again, It idles quite well after fully warmed up, or even if slightly cold but not the first start of the day. (At least it starts the first time and keeps running).
Finally, the purge valve. While looking at it most recently (-15F), I began inspecting the different sections of it, and, while it seemed good, I am suspect. It has the hard plastic liner with an outer sleeve. Does single layer rubber VAC line suffice as a replacement? Assuming I get the line in good shape, you say I can pinch it off to see if anything changes (valve closed at idle). What does the valve do at higher rpm? Again, no turbo here. I will read through fernando's threads again, but I don't know if I quite get the whole picture.
One other note: My SAI had been a bit noisy (but not quite to "vacuum cleaner" level .. my unexperienced guess is that it is OK), but I had pulled the fuse anyway since everything was suspect. I just re-installed the fuse today, however, trying to rectify anything related. IS it possible that something to do with it causes problems? I know it only goes to the exhaust manifold, but, if the SAI valve is bad and there is a VAC line from it to the intake manifold, then it leads me to believe there may be indirect connections. Could I remove the vac line and successfully "cap it" somehow? What is the sensor that "T's" with the SAI vac line at the back right of the engine before it goes down the the SAI valve?
warmer in MN, but 18" of snow now.
