The dealer maybe thought the noise came from T-chain Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Wed, 4 Feb 2004 21:29:15 In Reply to: Is this common with Saabs?, SadDay, Wed, 4 Feb 2004 06:59:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
when instead it was the balance chain going South.
Did the only "roll" in a new chain by taking off the valve cover and working from above?
That is the cheap way of replacing a timing chain and nothing really gets fixed by doing this.
The guides that the timing chain rides over should be replaced as well, but to do that the front engine cover needs to come off.
At this point the balance chain has to be removed since it is located in front of the timing chain.
My suspicion is that they misdiagnosed a worn out balance chain and sprockets. Any Saab mechanic knows about the balance chain problems.
At this point a good used engine might be better, and find a good Saab independant Saab shop to install it for you.
Also, do a search on this board for balance chain, oil pressure, sprockets, and you will find lots of more information about this issue.
