Sounds like the cable strands failed from bending fatique, not tensile overload. Solder would not help, it is very soft and you would need acid core flux that would get into the strands and make things worse.

I suspect that the cylindrical cable head (at the petal end?) was not rotating. When my 95SET was new, I was in there because of a creaking sound. I put some white lithuim grease on the cylindrical cable head*, so that it could rotate and reduce bending stress on the strands at the cable head junction. Do same at the clutch end if there is a similar situation.

* I also put some on the cable where it pulls in and out of the jacket, but I don't know if that was of any benefit. When my cable was replaced at 108K while doing the clutch, while doing the rear seal :(, I kept the cable. I looked carefully for any damage to the strands at the cable ends and it looked perfect. I still have that in the basement, time to throw that stuff out!

So I thing the above will sovle your problem.
