Re: Should I reinforce the Clutch cable with a Solder? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Should I reinforce the Clutch cable with a Solder?, Asia, Sat, 14 Feb 2004 14:44:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One way that "might" prolong the life of cable is to lubricate the white plastic bushing down at clutch fork.
The bushing is suppose to work as a bearing so that the pull of wire is always straight.
The friction though between plastic bushing and clutch fork is so great that the wire is actually bending back and forth for every time clutch is operated (like putting a nail in a wise and use a plier to bend it back and forth).
When the whole pressure plate/throwout bearing gets worn and more force is needed to operate the clutch, the bending motion of the clutch wire is increased and it breaks even quicker.
That together with that the wire is also chafing against the metal clutch fork makes it a less desirable design.
Maybe by polishing and round out the edges of the slot that the wire passes through in clutch fork,it could also make the wire last a little bit longer.
