Bearings are protected (at least for awhile) by the oil filter. I have taken down the bearings on some engines when doing the balance shaft gear but not found any significant scoring or wear, and therefore let them be.
The poor pump and front engine cover though takes the brunt of all dirt that gets sucked up through the oil pick up since they are located before filter.
It's possible to attach a pressure gauge instead of the switch.
Oil pressure reducer valve opens at 3.8 Bar (max pressure)
Oil pressure at 2000 RPM with warm engine is 2.7 Bar (depending on oil quality)
Oil pressure light comes on at 0.3-0.5 Bar
