I'd argue the reverse: as eBay becomes less of a "deal" it actually reflects more of the true market price because it becomes closer to an equilibrium in an (almost) perfectly competitive (p.c.) market. But zillions of other assumptions about a p.c. market are violated--one of the big ones being complete information among buyers and sellers! (The V6 engine is stellar example.)
We should *expect* to see fewer deals over time on eBay as it gets more popular. People notice and join in; demand increases. Viola, eBay becomes like the rest of the world.
It is absolutely true that you don't "win" anything on eBay but it feels that way when you get one of those rare killer deals. Ahh, the good old late 90s days....
