If you had the original switch on your car, that one only has one attachment bolt to the gear box casing. I guess they feel the switch is not stable enough with only one bolt.
That's why you need the bolt and bracket/spacer to update the gear box to later models.
If the switch was already held down with two 17mm bolts (one working double as a stud) the switch has been replaced ones before.
