we will be suspecting oil starvation cause by oil sludging. We see too much of that. When this happens the oil is suspected or oil change neglect is suspected. The oil starts to turn to goo.
Sounds like you were doing everthing right. We suggest Mobil 1 to be safe, but oil can't break down and polymerize in 2000 miles! Synthetic for longer drain periods would provide protection at less cost.
Compounding this is the failure of the low oil pressure switches that fail to alert drivers to a low oil pressure condition. Pressure drops if the oil pump pick up screen gets restrictive from good and chunks or the oil pumps relief valve gets stuck open.
Timing chains will cause an engine to crash if the chain fails. Chains do last very well unless there is a problem with the oil.
