I bought a 95 900S n/a in January with 53,000 miles on it. I paid $6200 for it at a Saab dealer, and included in the price was a whole laundry list of stuff (including some major engine work), so it is basically in "perfect" mechanical shape now. Since then, I've had no problems with it, save for my bent wheel (damn pot holes!). I took it to a great indy for the wheel and when I told him what the dealer did to it and what I paid, he thought I got an awesome deal.
I would consider who this used car dealer is - I'd take it to an independent mechanic who knows saabs to come up with any maintenance issues it might have, to put the sale into perspective for you.
A good thing to consider regarding how much money you are willing to put into something (other than if you actually HAVE the money...) is how much enjoyment you get from something. My previous car was a camry, and I had NO desire to put any money into it because I disliked driving it. I love my saab so much more though, I see putting money into it as maintaining something I enjoy - does that make sense? Well, hope this helps! Good luck!!
