Common Causes of Coolant Leak
1. Hose clamps loose
2. Small seeps in hose that is about to rupture (Usually around hose clamps and 90deg bends (Heater Hose).
3. Headbolts loose
4. Headgasket
5. Heater core
Try looking for greenish white crust on the engine/tranny. Any drippings on concrete over night? Then feel the hose clamps and connections, any wetness? Wiggle the hoses and see if they are soft. Your car is '96 and if hoses haven't been changed, probably good preventive measure to replace all the hoses. Can you smell sweetish smell inside? Then it may be the heater core. Check your engine oil dipstick. Any froth (bougarish white substance)? Open the valve cover and tighten the headbolts to spec. It takes torx socket. (I believe it is E26 socket, but not sure). If they are tight and still get the coolant in oil, then it is a blown headgasket. Hope this helps. Don't let this go on too long. Hose could rupture and this will leave you stranded. If you drive on without coolant, your engine will toast (seize and/or head crack). If coolant in oil, this will dilute the oil viscosity and and significantly shorten your engine life. Just in case, carry spare hose splice kit, clamps, screw drivers, coolant & water. Good luck.
