Hi Clay,
First, congratulations on your engagement. Second, I've probably had the worst luck out of anyone here on Saabnet with my NG900 ('96 SE turbo auto w/76k). Hopefully, you won't have anywhere near the luck I have, but just want you to know some potential pitfalls. I think it is still a very nice car and I can't wait to drive it again. (I'm putting another engine in right now, after mine (76k miles) died (threw a rod and put a hole in the lower block). Attached is the link from Natalie and all the responses. If you haven't read it already, I think it outlines potential problems well (includes mine - BTW, after pulling out the turbo, I found that that was about to go as well). Third, may be try getting a newer one may save you money and heart-ache down the road. In hindsight, I should have paid couple of thousand more and got a '98 instead. Fourth, Haynes manual is good to have, but harder to find than C900 manual. I have one and also have the Saab service manual (from Eeuroparts). When I did the headgasket, the Saab service manual was MUCH better. Fifth, AC system work is not an easy DYI. I got a slow leak that I can't find also. I'm just living with mine, as it is MUCH cheaper to recharge couple times during summer than to find and fix the leak. You might want to find a car that doesn't have AC problem. Most of the AC hoses are hard to reach places. AC compressor is in the front lower passenger side of the engine. Much more involved than the C900. Hope this helps. Contact me if you have any other questions. I'm in the process now of separating the engine from the tranny. I've taken out most of the components out of the engine bay now and can tell you how easy/difficult they are.
