Well, from my experience, the engine mounts are a wear-and-tear item that mainly affect internal vibrations within the venicle. I would not consider it a safety issue if the mount is worn, it just isn't doing it's job in dampening the engine vibration. You will definitely notice it on the freeway when accelerating at high speeds, but you could probably get away with making the trip.
I just replaced the lower left engine mount on my 2002 9-3 at 46k miles already... (under warranty) but replacing the one on my 96 900 SET cost about $125 for the part and $50 for labor.
