head retorque and driveshaft leak

So I read the bulletin regarding head retorque a little closer and realized that I didn't do the head cylinder retorque exactly how I was supposed to. The bulletin instructs you to go one bolt at a time, tightening first to 30 foot pounds, then to 44 foot pounds, then an additional 90 degrees. Instead of doing all three steps at once for each bolt, I went through all the bolts in the order suggested in three steps - first I tightened all of them down to 30, then I went through them all again to 44, then again doing the additional 90 degrees.

Should I get new head cylinder bolts and redo the torque job? Or is the method I used to retorque the bolts alright? It would seem that it wouldn't necessarily matter, but I don't want to ruin my engine!

Also, when I got the car checked out, the mechanic that went through it claimed that the transmission driver seal was leaking - he would of course fix it for the tune of $230. I checked underneath and the only thing I could see around the driveshaft and tranny was old oil residue from the valve cover leak (I have since fixed the valve cover leak). Has anyone had any experience with this kind of leak? If so is it a relatively straightforward DIY?
