another A/C post....(a bit long) Posted by peter [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
i think my AC has all the signs/symptoms of a leak. been going downhill for a couple of weeks, recharged (with coolant/oil/sealant combo from walmart) on thursday with very slight improvement and had to do it again today because it was back to hot air. at the start of this i noticed fog coming from the vents on at least 2 occasions, which i attributed to the fact that it was very hot and humid at the time (thunderstorms in NC). now when i turn it on the compressor kicks in (as it has the whole time), and there is an audible hissing-type sound from the vents (nothing unusual to be heard in the engine compartment). again slight improvement after recharge just now, but i'm afraid it will be back to hot soon and of course i can't keep recharging unless i want to replace the whole system. charged to ~35psi both thursday and now. + bubbles in sight glass. can't find physical evidence of a leak!!! car has had all servicing etc, and actually was just in for an early 155k at the end of april. i've read all the A/C posts on here that i can find...maybe i missed the one i needed to read :-P
is the fog episode related? normal? what about the hissing sound? why can't i find a physical leak?
i haven't taken it to be looked at professionally yet...hoping to avoid the $$ but i'm running out of options :-/ help!
thanks...
peter
