Slight hissing...suggestions needed... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Tue, 1 Jun 2004 09:05:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, everyone. As most of you know, I purchased my 1996 Saab 900 SE Turbo in Chicago about a month ago. Prior to purchase, the previous owner had approximately $840 in A/C leak repairs done. For the last several years, the previous owner would just recharge the system at the beginning of the warm summer season and the charge would last until the next year. In other words, they were fairly slow/minor leaks. I live in a much warmer climate, so I opted to have him repair the leaks before I bought the car. The A/C seems to be working very well, although it's just now getting up to normal summer temperatures around here. Anyway, there is a slight intermittent hiss coming from (what sounds like) the passenger side of the car. I don't know if this is associated with the A/C, but it seems to be more frequent when the A/C is running and it is hot outside. I'm somewhat at a loss trying to describe the sound, but it resembles quiet air brakes. Sometimes it will only last a second or two. Then there are times when it will last about five seconds, perhaps a little more. It starts out quietly, gets a little louder, and then fades back away. About a week ago, my finacee felt a drop of water on her foot while we were driving down the interstate (she was in the passenger seat). Again, I don't know if this is associated with the hissing, either. I may have more than one problem, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have heard that the turbo dump valve is also located in this area, so the hissing may just be an indication of normal operation. I would really like to get all of this resolved in the near future...assuming I need to resolve something. If you have any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions, and help. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
