I haven't bothered starting to tear into those transmissions due to that it isn't that many stick shift here in LA and the cost of special tools are high.
Also, the first generation of those trannies (94-95) wasn't that strong (especially reverse gear) and many parts should be replaced when taking them apart to be able to leave warranty.
The low cost of a rebuilt unit ($1600.00) also play a role in that I can get a factory rebuilt unit with all the updates and 1 year warranty and install it for less than it would take to tear one apart and do it myself.
The factory time to replace selector shaft is really low (3.5 hour) so maybe even the dealer would be cost effective. I wouldn't want to do it for that time though.
