Here are some things that this board has helped me out with and may answer questions for other people. I have fixed a few things and this advice may help pertaining to your problem.
Hard starting - I had the infamous hard start problem. It would crank but not catch until a few seconds into the second attempt. It sure seemed to be fuel related, but it was intermittent. I tried everything myself and finally had it looked at by a professional. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay. DAMN!! SO cheap to fix yourself, the only thing is you have to find it behind the dash. There are two, so replace both while your there.
after market stereo - I admit.. the clarion stereo sounds just fine, but I had the cd changer that skips all the time. So, I wanted to upgrade and it just seemed to be the most reasonable thing to get a new head unit. THe thing is it is hard to find a kit. THe ford f150 kit will work. There is a little bit of play vertically, but it easily fixed with around 2 mm sticky foam. THe harness is standard VW harness, but the wiring must be according to saab. If it is installed by the store, give them a print out of the connections. Find it on the saab audio page. If you do not do it according to this, the SID will not work properly (blinking, because the bus for it is still connected) and neither will the power antanae. THe power wires are backwards.(yellow and red I think) VERY HELPFUL for this diagram. bipassing the amplifier isn't very hard. Just look for the only speaker looking wires and splice the connection.
HEat exchange hose - I know there is debate over doing this from the top or bottom, but trust me, I have done it and it was very easy from the bottom. DOn;t waste your time.
MBC - I got the dawes MBC and yes If your thinking about getting it... 2 things-
1. It is very easy to put on and adjust. Trust me, I printed all the information and was nervous, but once I started working on it I found out it really is THAT easy. Search the board for directions.
2. It IS worth it!! Very fun and spool up is way better.. down around 2000 rpms rather than 3000 rpms. THe first and second gear is still limited, better though. But the fun part is fourth and fifth have much improvement. In fifth, the guage is up around half into the red.
check valve - I did replace the check valve that goes to the crankcase ( for the positive crankcase ventilation ) and that helped with an oil leak. so, you may want to go ahead and replace that. It was allowing pressure build up into the crankcase.
proper spark plugs - I tried the bosch platinums because that is what the autostore told me to get... It started skipping up in fifth gear with full boost. I put in the NGK's and it doesn;t do that anymore, so I agree with NGK fans ( or is it NKG ? )
Bazzoka tube - I put in a bazzoka tube, and if your wondering, yes it does sound damn good in a saab. The acoustics for it are just right. I had it in other vehicals and dodnt sound nearly as good. So, for around $175 it definately adds just the right amount of bass to help the system. It doesn;t blow ears, but it does sound really good. Better than I ever would imagine.
