I bought a 1998 900SE convertible (Amethyst, Taupe) a year and a half ago that had about 87K on the clock. The only problems I've had with it have been wear-and-tear items: brake pads, rear shocks, new tires.
Mine's a 5-speed, so I'm not really sure how the autos are in these.
The front end alignment seems to be really touchy in these cars. I had mine aligned last August and it's pulling to the left again. I know that I need to replace some front suspension components (struts definitely, not sure what else), so I think that would correct my alignment issues.
Overall - I can truly say that these cars are better quality and more reliable than any car I've had. In the last 4 years I've had two brand new VW's (Jetta 1.8T and GTI 1.8T) and they had more problems in the first 3 months of ownership than I've had total with the Saab.
With any car, though, jsut make sure that you take it to a specialist to get a good once over before buying - you're sure to recover the cost in the long run! Good luck!
