heavier feel after clutch cable replacement

It may just be my imagination after driving my roommate's Beemer for a few days while my tranny was out, but it seems like the clutch has a heavier feel after I put the new clutch cable in. Does it take a little while for a new cable to "break in"? I also put a new clutch/pressure plate in - is clutch action a little heavier with a new pressure plate?
Want to make sure I installed it correctly - what is the correct way to route the cable into the cable through the firewall? What I mean is - there is a rubber sleeve around the end of the clutch cable where it mounts into the hole going through the firewall. I assumed the rubber sleeve goes into the hole - is actually supposed to be on the outside? Sorry if this is a little unclear.
