Undo the four bolts holding the shifter housing to the floor. Then undo the pinch bolt in the engine compartment to release the shifter rod (put the car in 4th to make it easier for yourself later). That allows you to turn the housing to the side and get the switch out. You may have to disconnect the rod at the shifter end too (turn it towards the driver's side or you can't get a wrench on the bolt). When you put it back together you will have to align the shift mechanism but that's it.
To do that, pull the plug on the top of the tranmission case under the upper radiator hose and insert a 4mm allen key to hold the transmission in 4th. Leave the pinch bolt loose, put the shift lever into the 4th position and insert another 4mm allen key (or the shaft of a Craftsman t15 Torx driver) into the hole in front of the shift lever to lock the rod and lever in 4th too. Then tighten the pinch bolt and check you get all five gears and reverse (make sure it goes far enough back to engage the reverse lock too). It's simpler than it sounds.
