Asking for advise on oil is like discussing religion - You will hear a lot heartfelt opinions and in the end must judge for yourself.
With that said I'll offer up my $.02 worth.
The mobil one is certainly a quality product and you won't go wrong using it. If you do a lot of stop and go driving change every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. If you do mostly highway driving you can stretch that to 7,500 - 8,000 with no problem. The 0W-40 is recommended by SAAB for the 9-3 and 9-5 with even longer change intervals but you're better off being a little conservative in that regard. Make sure you change at least once year.
Most of the negative talk about the Castrol Syntec revolves around the fact it is made by a less costly process than Mobil 1 and it is felt it should therefore cost less. I have yet to see any documentation of the castrol performing badly, only that it should cost less.
If you want educate yourself on the subject and risk becoming an oil geek yourself, try surfing over to bobistheoilguy.com.
