Hi all,
The blower on my '96 se conv (2.0t) just quit out of the blue. The a/c had been working just fine except that, recently, it didn't seem to be draining properly all of the time (wet passenger carpet on long trips). I checked the drain from the outside and it seemed clear, but I hadn't gotten around to opening the interior yet to check that out. Maybe there has been some water/rust damage to other components as a result.
Anyway, I opened up the blower housing to take a look. I shorted the ground lead (used a pair of pliers bridging the connector and the chassis) and the fan kicked on - no funny noises or anything. When I measured the voltage with the fan connected it only registered in the mV range. When I disconnect the fan and test the leads w/o a load it reads 12-13V. Once again I ran out of time before opening the dash - I plan to do it tomorrow. So, is this consistant with a fan controller failure or is there something else I should be looking for? Also, any advice on the drain problem while I'm in there?
Thanks
