Hoping someone can help me:
On my '96 900SEt, 188k miles, the flex pipe has completely separated just below the manifold. On Eeuroparts, and the Saabsite, this is part number one on the diagrams.
It is listed as "turbo header w/ converter" on the saabsite, and doesn't appear to be available from Eeuroparts. What exactly is the converter, and what does it convert? Can I assume it is the Catalytic converter, and therefor must convert cats?
Why is this part almost $800 for OEM and nearly $500 for aftermarket - more than the cost of the entire remainder of the system? HOLY BEJEEBUS! There's nothing wrong with my cat, only with the flexpipe - who was the genius engineer that decided to couple a part that fails at some point on every car as an assembly with one of the most expensive parts on the car!
Are there any other options for replacement? Either aftermarket, or can I somehow splice in a part just in front of the converter?
Anyone have experience with the JT 3" systems listed on Taliaferro? The days are numbered for the rest of my system, so for the money, it might make sense to go this route and replace the whole deal. What is the difference between the 1 and 2 muffler sportcat systems (other than that one has a single muffler and one has a 2 mufflers? Is noise level noticably different? Performance?
Man, maybe I should just have Billybob down the street bend some pipe and throw a couple/three glass packs on it....
Thanks for any input, and sorry for the rambling post.
