Do you know if your mechanic installed a manually or automatically adjustable clutch cable? You can tell by lifting up the fuse box in the engine bay - the manually adjustable one will have a plastic nut on it.

The manually adjustable makes the clutch dramatically heavier than with the automatic one - so much so that it was making my leg sore after driving it.

From what I've noticed, the tranny on my Saab is noisier than other manuals I've driven. As long as it engages fine, you shouldn't worry too much - when do you hear the "whirring sound"?
