Greetings all!
Haven't been here in awhile (the group over at the 9-5 board were immensely helpful awhile back when I was considering a wagon...) but the "fun" car bug has hit me (and the wife). We recently came across a '96 SET Convertible, manual, 51K miles, asking price is $7.5K (non-Saab Bavarian import dealer). I took a cursory look at it on Saturday but didn't have enough time for a drive. Engine compartment is VERY clean, good tires, no visible leaks under it. A little notchy on the shifter but I have no prior Saab experience to know whether the linkage needs to be updated. Via a couple of phone calls to the two local Saab dealerships, I have found out that the car has been in mostly for routine maintenance, with the exception of the owner declining work on the A/C evaporator and the tonneau motor (not sure if it is non-functional or just acting up) shortly before it was traded in.
1. I've done a short review of the board here and noted a couple of things to look for. Anything unique to the '96s? Specific things to check when I go back tonight?
2. How does everyone feel about the price (given the recent info I've found out; we'll see if the dealer tells me about them)?
Thanks much!
Greg
