Car washes can drive water into strange places. My problem occurred when I washed the motor with low pressure water from a garden hose and a can of Gunk. I was careful to cover the battery, and avoided spraying electronics but neglected the ABS box.
I tried to wait mine out to see if it would dry out for about a month, I figured engine heat would dry it out in time, but to no avail, at least not in my case. The part had a special 70,000/7 yr. warranty on it based on a statement in my owners warranty manual. That tells me Saab may have had some misgivings about this particular part in 1994 and 1995 cars. Mine was replaced free of charge. My radio was wacky because I had the volume speed sensor on. Once I set it to "speed sensor off" the volume quit moving in sync with the wacky speedometer needle that went from 0 to 150 or points between, of course my odometer was racking up miles like crazy when this occurred. There has been several cases of this posted here over the years.
Here is what you can try. Loosen black plastic cover and pull it up about 1/2" or so for a better chance to dry out. You might want to blow a little hot dry air on it with a hair dryer, but be careful not to get things too hot. Make sure the cover is lifted a bit so moisture just does nor condensate and reform on the electronics. Also could be one or more of the wheel ABS sensors, if you live where there is lots of road salt, one or more of these may need to be cleaned off.
If you do need the black box, contact Saab and see if they will assist as you have done nothing unusual to cause this. This part should be expected to last the life of the car and not fail. If all else fails, get a used one from a junkyard. I agree with Adrian, 1,300.00 is too much to spend.
